You paid a deposit or placed an order

Common questions

A company I paid has gone bust, will I get my money back?

It depends on how you paid and where you sit in the creditor queue. Card payments over £100 carry Section 75 protection, claim from the card issuer first. Business invoices make you an unsecured creditor: register your claim with the insolvency practitioner as soon as the appointment publishes.

What is the difference between liquidation, administration, and strike-off?

Liquidation winds the company up and distributes assets to creditors. Administration is a rescue procedure run by an appointed administrator. Strike-off removes the company from the register, voluntary (clean wind-down) or compulsory (usually non-filing).

How quickly does this list update?

Same day. The filings feed reads The Gazette and Companies House daily, and this page regenerates hourly. Most "gone bust" directories batch weekly or monthly.

A company that owes me money is on the list, what should I do?
