How many companies share this registered address?
Enter a UK company number. We count the companies that list the same registered office address. In a test on past data, companies at widely shared addresses went on to enter insolvency more often. It is one indicator among many.
What past data says
We took the 556,942 companies incorporated between January 2022 and June 2023 and grouped them by how many companies list their registered address. Then we counted how many appear in our insolvency records from 2022 onward.
| Companies at the address | Companies tested | In insolvency records |
|---|---|---|
| 1 company (unique address) | 200,161 | 0.29% |
| 2 to 4 companies | 108,702 | 0.29% |
| 5 to 19 companies | 47,364 | 1.00% |
| 20 to 99 companies | 60,771 | 2.07% |
| 100 to 499 companies | 71,872 | 3.07% |
| 500 or more companies | 68,072 | 1.02% |
What it cannot tell you
- Most companies at shared addresses did not enter insolvency. At best about 3 in 100 did.
- Accountants, lawyers and registered office services list one address for many honest clients.
- Companies that were struck off are not in our data, so every rate above is probably higher in real life.
- This is our own test on public records. It is not a prediction and not a finding about any company.
