Customers that stopped appearing in HMRC trader lists
Which of my customers used to trade with the EU and no longer appear in the published lists?
HMRC publishes monthly lists of UK importers and exporters that trade with the EU. A company that appeared for years and then stops appearing may have changed how it trades. That is a reason to look closer. It is not a finding about the company.
This check is being tested with a small number of users. We run it by hand for now and do not charge during the test.
What you get
- For each company on your list: the first and last month it appeared in the HMRC lists, and whether it was an importer, an exporter or both.
- Other public facts side by side, such as filing status, so you can judge the pattern.
Tell us which customers you want checked
Leave your email and a few company names or numbers. We run the check by hand and reply by email.
What it cannot tell you
- In a test on past public data, companies that stopped appearing were about 2.7 times more likely to enter insolvency within 22 months (0.73 percent against 0.27 percent). More than 99 percent of them did not. It is one indicator among many, not a prediction.
- The lists cover trade with the EU. Traders can opt out and some items are left out, so a missing company may still be trading.
- The list format changed in 2021 and 2022, so we use data from 2022 onward.
Where the data comes from
Results are indicators from public records, to verify. They are not advice and not a finding about any company. If a figure about your company is wrong, tell us here and we will review it. Also see the payment times page and the free supplier check.
