Licence check for haulage, waste and security suppliers
Does this supplier appear on the register that its work needs?
Some work needs a licence or an approval. Hauliers need an operator licence, waste carriers must be registered, and security firms may hold an approved contractor listing. Send us a list of your subcontractors and we check each one against the public registers.
This check is being tested with a small number of users. We run it by hand for now and do not charge during the test.
What you get
- Whether a company number appears on the operator licence register (about 147,000 licences held) and the status of the licence.
- Whether it appears on the Environment Agency waste carrier register (about 441,000 registrations).
- Whether it appears on the Security Industry Authority approved contractor list (729 listed).
- The date of each register extract, with a link to the official register so you can confirm it yourself.
Tell us which suppliers you want checked
Leave your email and, if you like, a few company names or numbers. We run the check by hand and reply by email.
What it cannot tell you
- Finding no record does not mean a company is unlicensed. A licence may be held under a different name or by a sole trader, or it may not be needed for the work.
- Only a company number match is shown. We do not show names of individuals.
- Registers change. Always confirm on the official register before you rely on a result.
Where the data comes from
Results are indicators from public records, to verify. They are not advice and not a finding about any company. If a figure about your company is wrong, tell us here and we will review it. Also see the payment times page and the free supplier check.
